"Vietnam MIA's Remains Finally Head Home

Mother Had Refused To Visit Vacant Grave

ROSENBERG, Texas -- There's a plot and a headstone for Rudy Ray Becerra in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg, Texas. But his body has never been there.

His mother, Geneva Martinez, has refused to visit the vacant grave.

Becerra was 19 years old when he left his southeast Texas home in 1969 after a Christmas leave from the Army during the height of the war in Vietnam.

Three months later, a helicopter believed to be carrying Becerra was shot down over Cambodia.

After 31 years, the serviceman's remains will be returning to his mother today after a memorial service at Arlington National Cemetery.

Military officials recovered the last of the helicopter's wreckage late last year, including the remains of its crew members.

Becerra was declared dead in 1978. "
